Braids for Agam: Silver Academy Stands in Solidarity

Picture
On the day of Agam Berger’s release, Silver Academy students joined people across the world in an act of quiet but powerful solidarity. Braids for Agam was more than just a symbolic gesture—it was a tribute to her resilience, strength, and the kindness she showed even in captivity.
While held hostage, Agam braided the hair of fellow captives, offering them comfort and connection in the darkest of times. In her honor, our students arrived at school with their hair braided, standing with her in spirit and echoing her gesture of care and humanity.
To deepen the meaning of the day, our Shinshinim brought yellow ribbons, a symbol of remembrance and hope, which students wove into their braids. Together, we reflected on the importance of unity, the power of small acts of kindness, and the Jewish value of Kol Yisrael Arevim Zeh Bazeh—our shared responsibility for one another.
At Silver Academy, we believe in teaching not just knowledge, but values—instilling in our students a deep sense of connection to their heritage, their people, and the world around them. Events like Braids for Agam are a reminder of the kind of education we provide: one that nurtures compassion, resilience, and action.
May Agam’s strength continue to inspire us, and may all who remain in captivity be reunited with their families soon.

Reptile Encounters: A Day of Hands-On Learning with Forgotten Friends Reptile Sanctuary

Picture
This past week, Silver Academy was abuzz with excitement as Forgotten Friends Reptile Sanctuary brought an incredible reptile show to our school. The sanctuary, dedicated to educating communities about reptiles and promoting their conservation, gave our students an unforgettable hands-on learning experience.
The show began with an introduction to some fascinating reptiles—snakes, turtles, lizards, and more! Each creature came with its own story, teaching our students about unique adaptations, natural habitats, and the importance of caring for the environment. The kids were enthralled as they learned that reptiles, while often misunderstood, play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance.

What made the event even more special was the opportunity for our older students to join with our younger students and young members of our extended community from the Brenner Early Learning Center (ELC). Acting as buddies and helpers, the older children guided the little ones, sharing in their curiosity and offering encouragement. Whether it was helping a younger student gently touch a snake’s smooth scales or answering their many questions, the older students showed kindness, patience, and leadership throughout the experience.
For the younger students, it was a chance to explore the wonders of the natural world with a sense of safety and excitement, thanks to their older buddies. For the older students, it was a moment to step into a mentoring role and model the values of teamwork and respect.

Events like these are at the heart of what we do at Silver Academy: fostering meaningful connections between students while making learning fun, interactive, and impactful. The joy on their faces—and perhaps a little nervous bravery—said it all. By the end of the day, everyone walked away with not just a greater appreciation for reptiles but also a deeper bond as a community of learners.
We are grateful to Forgotten Friends Reptile Sanctuary for bringing this unique experience to our school and to our students for embracing the day with enthusiasm and curiosity.
