Ellis Rosenberg
Silver Academy graduate '70
I grew up in Harrisburg as the middle of 3 boys who all attended The Rabbi David L. Silver Yeshiva Academy. After graduating from The Silver Academy, I attended Talmudical Academy of Baltimore, where I continued my Jewish education. From there I went on to the University of Pennsylvania for two years until my father succumbed to cancer. I continued my studies at night while running the family business, eventually graduating with a degree in Business Administration from Elizabethtown College.

I met my wife Ann at a college convention in Baltimore, and we have 3 sons, all who graduated from The Silver Academy.
I began my career in education while still in high school, as a teacher of Bar Mitzvah lessons, and eventually started teaching Sunday school in the Harrisburg synagogues. When a position at The Silver Academy opened up in Judaic studies, I began teaching full time. I enjoy working with upper elementary age groups, because I feel that I can broaden their Judaic Studies foundation while helping them to perfect their Hebrew reading skills. I help them build a strong foundation and prepare for their pre and post B’nai Mitzvah studies.
The most satisfying aspect of my work as a teacher over the years is relationship building. I appreciate when students come back to visit years after they were in my class and state how my classes changed their lives. For example, one of my former students has gone on to rabbinical school, and he attributes what he learned in my classes as one of the reasons he became a rabbi. Another made aliyah, and every time she comes back to the United States, she tells me that it was in many respects because of the influence that I had upon her life.
I feel honored and privileged to be a part of the “shalshelet”, the chain connecting our Jewish past with the future of our people.
