History
In 1944, Rabbi David L. Silver (z’l) had a vision for the Jewish community of Harrisburg. When the first class of Yeshiva Academy students graduated in 1950, his founding principles of Academic Excellence, Community Responsibility and Vibrant Jewish Living were validated. A unique tradition was established that has thrived in the Greater Harrisburg community for more than 70 years.
The school, a first of its kind for a city the size of Harrisburg, quickly grew. In 1957, the school moved to its current home in the Jewish Community Center and added a middle school and co-education. Rabbi Silver’s school cemented itself as a beacon of Jewish pride and community, excellence in Hebrew/English education, and extracurricular enrichment. In the early 1990s, The Silver Academy established a signature Israel trip for the annual graduating class.
Celebrating more than 70 years serving the families of the Greater Harrisburg community, The Silver Academy continues to adapt and evolve its methods and mission to reflect modern life and society. By fully integrating newer technology and educational attitudes along with the values-based learning methods upon which it was founded, The Silver Academy will continue to prosper and bring families in the community together for years to come.
